A good sale does not end when the prospect leaves. You want to get the money agreed upon, describe the condition without ambiguity, and be sure that the ownership transfer is complete. A simple plan will help.
Write an advert that answers the obvious questions
List exact model, year of manufacture and first registration if different, mileage, origin, service, equipment and known defects. Take photos of both sides, cockpit, tires and any damage in daylight. The attached service invoice is more useful than the vague "always serviced"; mask personal information before posting.
Agree on viewings and test rides in advance
Give the buyer time to inspect the motorcycle with a cold engine and review its service records. Agree on any test ride before handing over the keys: the rider’s identity and licence, insurance, route, duration and liability for damage. Even a deposit does not eliminate every risk. If you cannot agree on the terms, offer an inspection at an independent workshop.
Check the payment in your own bank account
Verify the credit of the money in your own banking, which you open yourself. A screenshot or confirmation on the buyer's phone is not proof of payment received. For cash, choose a safe place and method of checking money in advance; for a large amount, also check the cash payment rules.
The alleged buyer may send you to a fake courier or bank page. Do not login through its link and do not confirm an unknown operation. Police describe this practice as a reverse ad scam.
Describe the bike’s condition clearly in the contract
Identify the parties and the motorcycle, negotiate the price and method of payment. Write known defects specifically; a general "buyer is aware of the condition" does not replace the description of the problem. Complete the handover record with time, kilometers, keys and accessories. Do not sign blank forms or unlimited powers of attorney.
Check that the transfer is complete
Agree on a specific procedure during the sale. Ownership transfer guide explains the online and in-person variant and list to forward will help with preparation. Work out insurance coverage so the buyer doesn't leave with unverified coverage.
If you are put off by inspections, repeated negotiations and administration, compare also separate sale with direct purchase. A higher advertised price does not automatically mean a higher actual return.
